Hexane-Free Organic Castor Oil - what's the fuss?

Oil Dripping Into Jar

In recent years, and months,  castor oil has gained such unmatched popularity on the health and cosmetic front - and for good reasons, which we will explore. It has been our top selling oil for 12 months in a row - so I am digging in deeper because I want to understand more about this oil that I had previously thought as the most humble of oils.

Though it has been in my arsenal for a decade and a half, it was hardly explored for anything beyond use in handmade soaps, body and lip balms. Let's dig deep to discover this natural wonder that nourishes, strengthens, and revives hair and complexion without harmful chemicals.

Let's learn how this organic powerhouse can stimulate hair growth, moisturize dry skin, and combat pesky blemishes effectively.

What is Castor Oil

Castor oil is a vegetable oil that is produced from the castor bean plant. Castor oil has been used since Ancient Egypt for medicinal and beauty purposes. It can be extracted from the bean by means of cold-pressing, or chemically by means of a solvent called Hexane. Hexane extraction is known to be harmful to health as it carries potential carcinogenic properties.

When it comes to selecting the best hexane-free organic castor oil, there are several key factors to consider to ensure you are getting a high-quality product. First and foremost, at Isivuno Naturals, we only carry cold-pressed hexane-free castor oil. This method of extraction preserves the oil's natural properties and nutrients, resulting in a more potent and effective product. Cold-pressed oils are typically richer in vitamins and fatty acids, making them ideal for both hair and skin applications. I believe the reason hexane is used in production of any oil is that it produces higher yields but in the process kills the natural plant properties.
So, opting for cold-pressed hexane-free castor oil ensures you are using healthier, nutrient-rich castor oil

.Jamaican Black Castor oil, is a dark version of castor oil, but with the same thick, luscious viscosity. It is extracted in the cold-process method, however, the castor bean plants are roasted before extraction, and this is what results in a darker colour and more nuttier scent. Both regular castor oil and Jamaican Black Castor oil are interchangeable in recipes.

By providing deep hydration, this oil creates a protective barrier that locks in moisture, preventing damage from environmental stressors. Regular application can result in softer, more manageable hair that retains its natural shine and vitality.

Additionally, this oil possesses antimicrobial properties that can help reduce dandruff and other scalp conditions.
